Obituary

Dedicated wife and mother Valerie Aileen Silva's life didn't come to an end with her death. Valerie passed away on June 6th, 2022 after a courageous 8 year battle with stage 4 lung cancer, surrounded by loved ones in her home on the shores of the Columbia river as the sun rose on the cliffs in front of her house.

Valerie was born in Tacoma, WA on June 16, 1952. She was the first daughter of Wallace and Aileen Meyer. She was an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation in Montana. She was always proud of her Native American heritage. Valerie attended Lincoln Highschool and graduated in 1970. She married Richard G Silva 35 years ago at the Hitching Post in Coeur D'alene ID, and had two daughters Kelly McKenny and Karrie Silva.  She had a successful career with Fred Meyer, and retired after 43 years of service. Her career was important, but only a fraction of the rich and fulfilled life she lived.

Valerie loved her family, creating, and the outdoors. Valerie spent most of her time making baked goods, knitting, or crocheting for her family and friends. She had a love for traveling and the outdoors. She spent a lot of time gardening, fishing, but also summited Mount Rainier in her younger years. Most of all she loved her family. She hosted large family gatherings for holidays. She enjoyed staying connected with her daughters, and helping raise her 4 grandkids. Most of all she loved spending time with her husband Rich and sharing adventures together.

Her positive impacts on other lives will not be forgotten. She was loved dearly by all her friends and family and will be missed by those that have known and loved her. She is remembered by her family: husband Rich, their two daughters Kelly and Karrie, her four grandkids Jaden, Rylee, Dylan and Ragen, her brother Jim and his wife Loree, her sister Victoria, and six nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 1 pm on August 6th, 2022 at the Sunland Estates Pavilion in Quincy, WA. In lieu of flowers, please bring a written or spoken memory of Valerie to share with family and friends.
